Since I saw some of you ladies ask, here are some recipes that I use in my homemade care.
My oil staples are: Vitamin E oil (it's a natural preservative), virgin coconut oil, avocado oil, lemon oil (to fade discoloration), Evoo, peppermint oil, jojoba oil, and sweet almond oils as a carrier oil.
My other staples are: Shea butter, honey, mayonnaise, coconut milk, eggs (be careful though with the eggs. Some hair types can be protein sensitive so too much protein can be really bad for you hair.
For body oils:
I usually will mix 1/2- 1 tablespoon of each my staple oils and include pomegranant, and grapeseed oil in there for fragance.
Lighten hair with Cinnamon, (only if you have dark hair)
1/2 bag of ground cinnamon
Favorite conditoner
Saran wrap
Mix the cinnamon with your condtioner and then apply the paste to your hair in section, and then wrap it in a saran wrap. For best result leave over night. After about 3 of 4 session of this, you'll see noticiable difference. If you want faster results add 2-3 drops of lemon oil. Be warned though, the lemon oil can be very drying.
Fresh Mint Face Mask
2 teaspoon of grounded fresh mint (optional)
1 10 oz of Mint powder.
1 bag Mud clay
1/2 cup of Avocado.
2 tablespoon of Vitamin E oil.
Grind the mint in a processor or chopped finely. Mix the mud clay, avocado, and mint powder. Stir in the oil until the mix is smooth and add the ground mint and let the mixture sit for about 5 or so minute. Then apply to face. You can save and refrigerate the remaing mixture for up 2 weeks in a small mason jar.
Shea and Mango Whipped Butter for Hair and Skin
6 oz. Refined/Unrefined Organic Shea Butter and Mango Butter
1 ½ oz. Olive Oil
1 ½ oz. Jojoba Oil
1 tsp. Vitamin E Oil
1-2 tsp. Coconut oil
Melt the two butters for about 1 minute in the microwave. Once done, whip them on high setting until the mixture is thoroughly mixed in. Then add your essential oils and stir low until the batter become light and fluffy. Let the mixture sit to set for about 30 minutes and then add to your mason jar. Should last you about a month.
Most of the recipes I found on various websites and tweaked them to my personal liking. Hope this help. Alright. I'm off to bed now.
Religion
is the face mask for oily skin?
1It is and as a toner to keep your pores tight. My cheeks and forehead are my problem area and it's been really helpful in keeping the pimples at bay.
2Oh thank you!!
Just a few questions -- where do you get your supplies? A health food store? or somewhere else?
Also just a general question -- I've been thinking about switching my shampoo and conditioner. It seems to not be working as well as when I first started using it (anyone else have that problem?). What do all of you use?
3I think I'm going to start leaning towards all-natural products. Just not sure what I am going to use at this point. I've been doing a little research though.
have you tried a cleanser of clarify shampoo maybe once a week? it breaks up the regular shampoo and any residue from products. What do you use?
4I've never used that... I'll get some and try it out. Thanks.
I'm currently using Herbal Essence - the "tousle me softly" kind - it helps with wavy/slightly curly hair which is what I have.
5i have similar hair and its fine. I use Redken or bumble & bumble regular shampoos & conditioners and then use a leave in conditioner and something like B&B grooming cream, Redken fresh curls, B &B beach spray. Nothing too heavy. I also use once a week coconut oil and leave in overnight. you have to really wash it out the next day. Or try for 30 minutes - body shop's Brazil Nut Moisture Mask.
6I have samples of fekkai's PM treatment and redken's overnight treatment that i have to try.
7Hey Kiki - I've been alternating between Smooth Infusion by Aveda and this other stuff made by Abba, purchased from Target
:
I think I like the abba better than the Aveda stuff!
OH - and thanks for the post Myst! I look forward to a free day when I can give some of this stuff a try.
8Leave it to me to post a ginormous picture. . . Sorry, ladies!
9hehe I love the ginormous picture
Thanks I'll try that out.
10Sam - Redken's curl stuff works good? I'm going to get some! I need something that will help define and defrizz!
11i use a little bit of the fresh curl creme. I have not tried the shampoos & conditioner. The Aveda stuff is good if you want to straighten out your curls. I have heard B&B reformulated their curl conscious line. I was not a fan of the old one - too greasy.
12great now I am totally hungry.
13Kiki I get everything from the health stores. Before I left I stacked up at WholeFoods Market for almost everything I needed.
